Laughing Through the Dark Times

As a kid we believe that adults know everything. They’re smart and know what to do in every situation. Around teenage years we think that we are smarter then adults and that we know everything like they do. And still sadly, we always get out into situations that we realize we still know nothing.

Now we enter adulthood and think to ourselves, “ok this is it. We know everything now. We have lived life” and once again we are humbled into realizing we know nothing.

I guess the wonder of being a child is that notion of adults knowing everything. How to fix everything that’s wrong, how they always have the right thing to say.

It’s not until you’re past your college years and years into your career do you finally realize, you know nothing. No one knows anything. We’re all just making it up as we go along. In every situation iv been in, right or wrong, i can look back on it and say damn I handled that wrong.

My nieces look at me and think I have the answer for everything. I tell them all the time I am not an adult. If you need an adult look elsewhere because I am not handling the situation like an adult should. But then it clicks to me, every adult I know would handle those situations differently. So even then, I know nothing.

If I was right about everything and knew as much as I thought I did. I wouldn’t be single, never had a heartbreaking moment, be way further into my career. But sadly life doesn’t work that way.

Maybe one day I will be a full fledged grownup and know everything. But when that day happens, the aliens will probably take over the world and the pigs will be flying. I know nothing.
