I wish I can say I have been a stoolie from the beginning of Barstool but unfortunately I cant. I have always liked the content that they put out and have enjoyed the blogs from back in the day but I was not that guy that was on there website daily reading and watching the content. In the past few years I started watching more of there content and reading more blogs put out by them.
I probably started being more of an avid watcher and reader during Covid but even before then i used to love listening the KFC radio. Listening to KFC and Feits go back and fourth about nonsense has always been great. When I listen to them I get the same feeling I have when me and the boys are just bullshitting having a drink.
Since watching there shows on YouTube every week I have started to consume even more barstool content. What I have noticed in the past few years as to why its so appealing is the fact that they are all so relatable.
Even with the sale of Barstool coming back to Dave and Dave now being rich; it still feels like its just a bunch of relatable people making videos and content that we can all relate too. Perfect example is watching the Pardon my Take gang play silent golf. I don’t even golf and I can tell you, if me and my friends were out there we would be fucking around just like they were the entire time trying to get the other team to talk. Or when they played the front 9 trying to make Par for the course doing a scramble and they were just yelling at Jake every time he didn’t do better then all of them. We all have a Jake in our friend group that gets so much shit from us yet still sticks around.
While so many people dislike Barstool sports and its employees it always seems like its from a place of jealousy. The big media companies cant relate to people just being people and not being a corporate entity. I work for a large corporation and the corporate speak that has to be sent around vs the way normal people talk are just far away from each other. And I think that Barstool changes the way Millennials and Gen Z do things in corporate and that scares the shit out of old media heads.
The old school ways of how companies need to be run have been dying off for years and the old guard is trying its hardest to stay in control the only way they know how. By attacking the company that is leading the charge and taking the media game to a different level. Barstool employees understand that they have an opinion and there own personality and that is the appeal to the masses. Any other media company, whether traditional media or online, they don’t seem to grasp that people trust and enjoy normal people. Not talking heads that talk at you and tell you how you’re supposed to think and feel.
As Kevin and John say on KFC all the time “Just be normal. Like things the normal amount.”
I feel barstool does a great job at being normal in its own crazy way. Yea its chaos and drama in the office but that is why people love it. Its unscripted and just natural. The only way that happens in the normal world is in the friend group with the boys and you call each other out on each others bullshit and then its squashed and then when the drunk uncle shows up for the holidays to air out everyone’s business.
The internet would not be where it is today if Barstool sports did not exist and I am excited to see where the company goes from there. Barstool comedy is going to take over the internet and i cannot wait to see some of these personalities blow up and get on to bigger things.
