Here in Northern New Jersey we have this place called “The Liberty Science Center”. And what you can gather from the name, its a place to learn about science. So this place is located in Jersey City NJ over looking the downtown New York Skyline right on the Hudson river. The views you get are amazing.
Now the LSC (Liberty Science Center) started a program right before the pandemic called LSC after Dark. So this is when the grown children AKA Adults can come out and check out the science center. There is usually music and drinks and a DJ and just an overall good time. When Covid hit they debated shutting this place down entirely but because it is the largest science center with the largest Planetarium in the North East they kept it up and running. This is a great thing for the kids and the community but also for us Grown children.
Last night me and some friends attended there “Emo Night”. It was a blast! We drank some specialty whiskey drink that was “smoking” thanks to some dry ice put into the cup, space and emo themed food like my “cosmic burger”. We even created our own water! Called it space water, which was just another whiskey drink they gave us instead of a water when we ordered lol. There was a jungle gym type attraction hanging in the air over the dance floor that had some tight twists and turns floating 30 feet in the air was very fun to participate in. Even though we occasionally got stuck at a dead end in the floating contraption.
Besides the dope music and good vibes we all went there to do 3 things; drink alcohol, watch the Dark Matter show in the planetarium and see the laser light show while listening to some dope punk rock music. All of these objectives were ticked off our to-do list as we did all of them and had a great time.
The Dark Matter show was pretty cool. I’m a huge nerd so i loved learning about that but also, watching those shows with a little buzz on and having a drink during it, made it so much better. We cracked jokes the entire time and just had a great time during it. This is probably one of those things that its only as fun as the people you saw it with, luckily my friends put up with my corny jokes during things like this and at least laugh from time to time to boost my confidence lol.
The laser light show was sick to watch as it was in the Planetarium and we had front row seats that laid all the way down. The punk rock music they played during this was just up our alley it was one of our favorite bands from our sad teenage years. The light show played to the music, it was basically a mid 2000’s computer screen saver that synched up to music but it was cool to see. Overall would definitely recommend a night out like this with some friends.
Being adults and going to places geared towards children’s learning is such a different vibe once you add your crew of friends, music and alcohol. It was such a good experience that we all would definitely do it again. Come to think of it, we have to do it again because we never made it to the top floor to play the brain games. We were so enamored with the music and fun downstairs we failed to explore the entirety of the Liberty Science Center After Dark.
All in all, sometimes we have to take a step back and remember what its like to be a kid. Do dumb stuff with friends and just enjoy the moments.
